What's an Activity Factor and which is right for me?

An activity factor is simply the amount we'd multiply our basal metabolic rate (which is the amount of calories we'd use at complete rest) to determine how much energy we'd use throughout the day. It adjusts for, and takes into consideration, our exercise and or (surprisingly) our activity levels.

Here's a table giving a description for each activity factor. Often times I'd prescribe an "inbetween" number, which is why I included 0.5 values in the activity factor drop down menu.

Most Will fall between 1.375 to 1.55. Typically I choose between 1.4 - 1.55 for my clients, depending on how frequently the go to the gym and or exercise and what that exercise consists of. E.G. exercising 3 x a week with a retail job would be between 1.4 to 1.45. Exercising 4 - 6 x a week would merit an activity factor of around 1.5 - 1.60 (depending on job)
